Default 2008 PT Cruiser shaking & sputter help!

Hello. Newbie here & desperate for help. My daughters 2008 w/74000 miles wouldn't start at all. It was close to empty on gas & oil. Husband added both. The engine light had been on (not flashing) for about 2 weeks bit would shut off. After adding fuel & oil the car hesitated but started. The whole car is shakes at idle and exhaust is loud & sputters. Codes came up P2075, P0113, P0522. Husband changed air intake sensor & tried starting again. Same loud noise & shaking. Proceeded to reset code & new ones came up along with a flashing check engine light. Codes P0300 & P0303. Changes spark plugs, wires & coil pack. Still no change. There is also a odor of gasoline under engine. At a loss & keep spending $$$!

If you ran that low in oil and getting codes 0300 and 0303 I suggest you have a combustion check on all the cylinders to see if #3 is low.

The #3 plug when removed was wet prior to installing new. Before Husband did combustion test new plug was wet again. Combustion reading on #1, 2 & 4 are at 160, #3 is at 50.
Thank you for your quick response.

ok so if #3 is at 50 its either a burnt valvue or a busted ring either way its not building compression so its most likely not goign to fire
running really low on oil is NEVER EVER a good thing since that is pretty much the lifes blood of a car
as much as you dont want to hear this id say it time to pull the head and see what really is wrong

Agree.
& since to pull the head, timing belt has to come off, plan on replacing timing belt & water pump so that you'll be set for a long time.

I would do a leak down test before pulling the head. If you have a ring problem, don't even bother with the head, as you'll need to replace or rebuild the engine.

If it passes the leak down test and the rings are fine, then you can proceed to pull the head and check for damaged valves.

A blast from the past. First QSD (quicksilverdon) pops up and now Steve (heifetz17) welcome back guys. Always good to get your input.

that is a great idea but if its just a broke ring and it hasnt gouged the walls you might get lucky and just pull #3 piston and replace it--Ok so its a Long shot and a REALY LONG shot but it could happen
either way a leak down is a good start
