Exclamation Why does my PT's throttle body need replacing?

Hello everyone firstly I just want to say a big thank you to all you wise PT owners who have been advising us newbe's as I have benefited from your knowledge on here, so here I am to ask if you have an answer to my dilemma. My PT is a 2.0 51 plate and has just had a large amount of work and gen maintenance done, i.e belt, water pump, thermos, head gasket, radiator, and so on. Since the work has been done she vibrates a bit too much and has a v.bad idle therefore simply cuts out each time I am stationary, the mechanic says I have a faulty throttle body & I should replace it togehter with the inlet manifold. Before he told me this I read on here that it would be a good idea to clean it first which he said he has done (I also put in a bottle of CATACLEAN), so my question is what is the actual fault with the throttle body and was it caused because the head gasket was damaged?

http://1.2.3.9/bmi/www.ptcruiserlink...s/confused.gif

Please advise guys
Thanks

Never heard of ANYONE having a faulty throttle body. Maybe one that needs cleaning but not bad enough to throw it away and replace it.

Was you large amount of work (which included the timing belt) just recently done before the vibration and bad idle and cutting out? If so, it sounds like the classic symptoms of the timing being off because the mechanic didn't get it right.

Sounds like you'll have a hard time proving it to him but we've seem all those conditions before and it came out to be right after the timing belt change and when done over and done right, everything cleared up.

Does the engine vibrate only at idle? How does it run when you're on the road?

By the way, you need another mechanic. That throttle body story he gave you is way off the charts.

Agree with previous- Obviously anything on a car can fail, but have never heard of a modern TB failing; they use bearings instead of bushings, so it doesn't wear like carbs did.

Perhaps he means IAC?

If I understand correctly- I'd also agree timing is off

Me 2, joining the gang above. I've seen plenty of completely dirty throttle bodies that needed real cleaning up, but never seen one that needed replaced. One thing to note too is that you should check on the throttle cables - I put a bit of WD-40 down a friend's after we did her throttle body and boy did it change the throttle response!

X4 Timing is off. I've NEVER heard of one of our throttle bodies going bad.
