Default Is this the new style timing belt cover?

Just bought a PT used w/90K on it. I think it has the new style cover.

It has so many new parts that I'm curious as to whether the timing belt was done. If this is the updated style and has the updated tensioner, maybe I should ASSume that the belt has been changed??

Why else would it be on there unless the belt has been changed?

Another thing that make me think it's done: the accessory belts are not factory. It is hard to start when hot. I think it may be out of time a bit. It run great once started though but the engine does shake at idle more than I think it should.

Looks like you're on to something
I'm positive mine was smooth, no ribs-

Here's an update kit from Rockauto.com-
You can go there and research more- it's handy
Looks like it has same ribs as yours

Yep, the OEM timing cover is smooth, at least on the 2001. I have the new tensioner but my mechanic altered the cover to fit.

I'm going to just keep asking questions so Crewzin posts more pics of his PT!

Seriously, I did buy a new cover for mine from Mopar- The difference was (besides all the cracks ) that it was all plastic instead of having brass inserts for machine screws-
Just used wood screws (can kinda see in that Rockauto pic) but still had smooth top cover as pictured.

The ribbed one is only aftermarket?

The ribbed one first came on the 03 along with the advent of the turbo. I'm not saying it only came on the turbos, just that both things first happened at the same time. Probalbly not a co-inky-dink. My 04 NA has the ribbed one from the factory. When ribs are added to something its usually to add strength. As far as I know, they have all been ribbed since then.

Also, afaik we haven't been told what year the op's PT is so we can't yet draw any conclusion as to its being original or not?

And his wife has been livid ever since then, I mean Crewzin taking a shower with the curtain missing can't be a pretty site. Even the dog won't go in to get a drink from the toilet when thats going on.
