Default Bad fan/relay related to rough idle?

Trying to solve 2 problems but could be related. I have what seems to be a common issue with the AC not working unless the car is moving, so I assume the fan is bad. We took it to a small local shop and they replaced the "fan relay" but don't know which one they replaced (high or low) so we're kinda out of luck and will probably have to replace both again as well as the fan just to be sure.

But we're also having a rough idle problem, the car will hesitate when leaving a stop and will feel like it is going to stall when sitting at idle.

I read through several threads and nobody really posted any results to their solutions. Are these two problems related or does the poor idle relate to a bad idle air control switch?

My next question is: If I remove the IAC switch to clean it, does it have to be aligned a certain way? I am just having flashbacks to working on my old 302 mustang and the IAC could be turned slightly to adjust the idle through the bypass motor on the TB. Is this the case here or is the IAC in one fixed orientation on the mount?

If you turn your A/C off does it still idle rough?

i miss my mustang. now i have to pull over when police turn their lights on (:

you can't rotate this one. take the throttle body off to clean it. it's like 3 10mm bolts that are much easier to get to. mine was kinda clogged but cleaning it made no difference(but it's clean).

Usual idle grief is plugs and wires - when were they last done?
Get a name brand (not stock) for wires, and plugs gapped at 0.040 (the Champions are okay).

They were done with Autolites and NGK wires last time, probably 3 months ago

Bottle, just replace the fan and don't worry about the fan relays. The vast majority of A/C warm at idle ut cold on the road, engine stumbling at idle, etc. is the fan.

I agree with mfrodo. The relays are most likely OK and the fan is shot if it's not coming on when you turn the AC on.

If it comes on intermittently then the fan is on it's way out. The carbon brushes within the motor have worn down, and they need to maintain contact with the commutator for it to spin. Eventually (soon) it won't come on at all as the brushes lose all contact with the commutator.

See my last post on this thread you will see what Harry is describing.

Rad Fan - A/C test question?

My car had a similar idle issue, but not quite as bad as yours. I have not tried it with the new fan yet, so I can't say for sure that it is fixed. I am betting it is...
