I just found out about this site and as I am a new pt owner I thought I would post with a big problem. I have a 2002 pt limited and the tranny will not shift. I put my scan tool on it and the code comes up as p0700 which is a dtc with the tranny controller. It is here where I am at a loss. How do I find out what part of the tranny is bad?
I believe from the research I have done that the tranny is in a " limp home" mode that leaves the car in 2nd gear. After that bit of info, I am stuck in the dark. Help!! ![]() |

The car has 117,000 miles and I have no service history of the vehicle. ( bought it cheap at an auction. Is there a special scan tool needed to further diagnose the problem? I take it that is what the dealership will use?

Yes, the dealer has tools called DRB and StarScan. A 2002 will use the DRB and it will communicate with the car systems to determine the exact fault and repair needed. You cannot do that with a standard universal scanner.

If you have not already tried it, I'd pull the neg battery cable and stand on the brake pedal for 5 min or so to discharge all residual? memory.
Then reconnect to see if the code reappears. I threw this code a few years ago at the track. Dried the tires off after going through the water box and BAM P0700 ![]() ![]() Luckily, I haven't seen that same code or been back to the track since ![]()

Okay, I have an update. I tried a better scanner tonight from a friend and pulled an additional code. P0605 Internal control rom module malfunction.
I have tried several searches on this website and others and am getting conflicting info from them. Any suggestions what to do from here? |

Both P0700 and P0605 are TCM faults. More importantly P0605 is an internal fault within the TCM, for which Chrysler recommends replacing the TCM.
