Default transmission delemia

driving along yesterday crewsin down the highway (70-75mph)
my car decided it was a great time to down shift to first gear. skidding front tires. tach pegged. and no controll for close to 75 feet?? the car actually stopped running for a few seconds untill i put it in neutral. fired right back up but had a check engine code?? P0505. so far as i can figure it is a IAC (Idle Air Control) code. car still idles shifts smooth and has no issues. are these 2 things completley un related or did something fault?

Change the Idle Air Control Valve.

And change the VSS *vehicle speed sensor* this is the part that tells the car when to shift depending on speed :-)

That should fix your wagon :-)

No, No, No. Great answer on your part. Just trying to show the poster where the VSS is, added automatic trans. Yes, I did steal the pictures from Mr Haynes.

So you got your 2.4 tested to 10,000 RPM!

A few months back someone complained of trans 'locking up' going down freeway
He complained of a dangerous defect but refused to let Chrysler look at it and had it repaired.

The difference between 'locking up' and shift into low at highway speeds would be only semantics to occupants!
