Default Shift Solenoid Plug??

I have a 2002 PT crusier.

There is a 7 or 8 prong plug that is plugged into what I think is the PT cruiser shift solenoid underneath the battery.

Previously the car would not shift above going 40mph, so a family member of mine took out this plug cleaned it off and plugged it back in and it worked for 600 miles. Now it is doing the same thing again and when I pulled it off and plugged it back in it feel loose and does not seat tightly.

The family member who orginally replaced the transmission in this car believes that he had possibly broken a clip off this part when he had taken out the last transmission.

What is this part called? Was there a clip on it? and Can it cause this problem?

Ps... This car was flooded 5 years ago that is why the tranny was originally replaced.

The part you are referring to is the VSS or vehicle speed sensor.

It senses the speed of the car and tells it when to shift.

Costs about $50 you can get it through autozone. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...mString=search

There is a clip on it, that runs to a wiring harness that goes up into the engine.

It is a vital part of the car. Replace it. you should be fine :-)

Yes, you only need to pry enough to get it to pull off. The tang will lock it back when you plug it back.

Your welcome, just lift it enough to release the plug. You will still have to tug on it good.
