Default Axle Replace Right Front - Hot to do

2006 GT Turbo, convertible and has a (single) player. (Actually was asked if it was a convertible when inquiring about having my wheel bearing pressed out/on at a local machine shop so thought I would include all the important info.)

Some of y'all may remember my post about the "whomping" sound from my right front wheel. General consensus (as was mine) was wheel bearing.

Am ready to install the hub/knuckle with new bearing, however, there is a small item that needs to be taken care of first. Two actually but the second one has no bearing on the first.

Seems the strut was under a little bit of compression and when I removed the bolt, down it came on top of the CV joint/boot. In the removal process the boot ended up with a small hole it it.

Replacement boot not at local parts stores (NAPA or Advanced any way), will try dealer tomorrow.

While searching for boot info, saw a post that indicated my issue could be the CV joint. And NAPA guy said why not replace the axle it's only $60 or so. This seemed like the proverbial slippery slope at the time so I said I would stick with the boot option.

But the cost of an axle seems reasonable, and I would hate to replace just the boot to find out the cv joint was bad.

Alas, have not seen any posts on axle replacement using the search function but the axle is just setting there, waiting for me to replace it.

Links to a post or any how to do it tips would be greatly appreciated as well as your thought on what you think is the best way to go.

As always, thanks

Loosen lug nuts
Jack up car
remove wheel

Stick item in rotor vanes (drift/ Screwdriver) and loosen axle nut

Loosen ball joint cinch bolt & remove

Pry LCA down 'till ball joint shaft pulls of of knuckle

Push axle out of hub

Not sure how half shaft comes out on equal length, but likely just POPs out

install new axle, assembly is reverse of above

should be ~25 minutes

The axle just slides off from the intermediate shaft.
