Default Trying to make sure I get the right part

I have a 2002 PT Cruiser Touring Edition. When we bought it the only issue was that the headlights weren't working and the locks aren't working. He (the previous owner) changed the Multi-Function Fuse and that didn't help it. Someone told him it was a sensor. Part store says that particular model does not have the sensor. In researching, I found out it might be the Power Box (do not know the exact name of it sorry). On my PT, it's this black box that is screwed to the back side of the engine compartment right above the battery area. They said we would have to have it reprogrammed (and on said box, it does say it requires reprogramming with vin number and mileage). As my Bf's driving it around to part stores trying to find a part, it started not wanted to switch gears (which person said this Power box also controls). So would we need this power box, or an actual fuse box?

That "power box" is actually the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) or Computer. Yes, if you need it, it does need programming with the VIN of your PT.
