Default How to tell if 04 has alarm system?

Just looking for a way to tell if my daughter's 04 has an alarm system in it. I believe it's the base model since there's not badging stating otherwise. I looked in the manual and it says when you lock the doors with the remote that the light should flash. Her's doesn't.

Easy just like any other car; with windows down go ahead and remote-lock the car, put hand inside to unlock vehicle and open the door. If an alarm goes off you have one, if no alarm goes off then you have none. Don't rely on a blinking light, hell some people add one to give the impression that their car does have an alarm.

Yeah, if there is an alarm, a little red light will be flashing in the dash cluster when you lock and shut the doors. Another good way to tell if you have an alarm system is to unlock the locked car from the passenger side, not the driver's side, with just the key and not the remote. My husband did that once trying to get into the passenger side with a spare key (no remote) while I was in the store. He set off the stupid alarm!

Usually alarm equipped vehicles will have a sentry key, and non-alarm vehicles will not.

A sentry key has a fat gray head and is programmed to the vehicle. A non-sentry key has a flat, black head and is not programmed.

My daughter car does have the fat grey key. I tried opening the drivers door by reaching the window and pulling the door handle nothing happened. Also tried unlocking the passenger door with the key and nothing happened. When I lock the car with the remote the red light doesn't flash. Just wondering if maybe the security system is not working. I checked the fuse, but it's alright.

heifetz17,

Just saw that you are from Billings, I was raised southwest of there in Silesia. My Mom lives south of Laurel. I'll be coming through there over Labor Day.
