Default Inport/Outport Speed Sensors

Hi All.
It's been a while but here I am with another problem. Took my 02 Cruiser in to have the error codes fixed and was told that the Speed Sensors were reversed. They replaced them in the corect(??) place and my gas mileage went from 28 mpg to 12mpg. Is it possible to have them in wrong. I've had the car for a while and noone has fooled with the engine.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob

Yep!!
I was getting 16-18 before going to Bosch Plugs and new wires. Went up to 26/28 until the sensor switch. The mechanic who did the repair said the sensors can't be reversed but something went wrong. Maybe I'm getting what I'm supost to> The only other modification is a new air intake.
I've searched several forums but nothing has come up. I can't believe I'm the first to have this problem.

Well, your the first on two accounts. One, to have the wheels sensors reversed and two, to gain 10 mpg by changing plus and wires.

I thought maybe he was talking about the O2 sensors.

Sorry I wasn't clear about which sensors I was talking about.
The sensors are on the transmission. The mech(?) said I had the sensors reversed. I never touched the output sensor as it is very hard to get to unless you have the car in the air. If he's correct, I drove the car for 6500 miles with the sensors reversed. Can't believe that. I checked with the prior owners and they said the only major repair done was the timing belt saga.
My question is- Is it possible to drive the car with the transmissiom input/output sensors reversed?
Sorry for the confusion.
Bob

I have no idea-
There's two speed sensors, both appear to be on (vehicle) front of case.
One is 4800879 (Output)
Other is 4800878 (input)

Both are gray connectors, they appear to have different internals so they can't plug to one-another.
input is DB/BK and RD/BK toward center
Output is DB/BK and LG/WT is toward passengers side

Drawing shows both sensors similar, but unseen part different.

So could one screw the input into the out put?

Dunno.

There's a long list of things they do, I think they essentially measure slippage so trans shifts super smooth

Smile Re: Inport/Outport Speed Sensors

I know Chrysler can be completely insane when it comes to "designed for maintenance", however I can't believe even they would be daft enough to place two sensors in close proximity that have the same connections or pin out and that the wiring is long enough to reach either of them. If that was the case, there must literally be thousands of PT's running about with the sensors reversed, cos we all know how careful Chrysler Dealers are when it comes to servicing stuff
