Default Looking for help with radiator fan diagnosis

First post here. I've been working on my sister's 2002 PT non-turbo and using the forums here for help.

The radiator fan has stopped working, high and low. The fuse is good, the high and low relays work. I read on here and a few other places how PT's can have this problem from loose or burnt wiring. Checked the wiring in the PDS and it all looked fine.

The connector at the fan is getting voltage, although the meter is reading about 29 volts. The sockets for the 2 relays each show about 24 volts across the power parts of the socket (labeled 85 & 86 on the relays).

I'm no automotive electrician, but at least I see the relays are getting voltage, and the wiring is sending voltage at the fan connection. So that's just a dead fan right?

And if it is, I know the service manual says you have to take the whole radiator out to get at the fan, but it's just held on with 6 bolts, and maybe I have to take the lower radiator hose off, and then I can just pull it out the bottom. Anyone ever done it that way?

There are numerous threads on this forum that point directly to the fan, itself, as the primary reason why the PT fan doesn't work.

This will be another.

BTW, that "How To" is spot on for your 2002.

Have fun,

Tim

I just added a complete section to someone's post earlier this week. Search the forums to find it, it has all kinds of info on troubleshooting the fan.

+! to replacing the fan motor or assembly. Very unlikely to be anything else.
