Default Stabilizer Link Missing

So the last item on my list of stuff to investigate and fix on my newly acquired PT was this clunking noise from the front end over bumps.

Well, the problem is fairly obvious -- the driver side stabilizer link is missing and the sway bar is just hanging out there wiggling. Not sure why a previous owner would do this.....

All the mounting hardware seems to be gone - whatever nuts bolts would go there, there is nothing on the control arm but a hole.

If I buy a link, I am not thinking it will come with mounting hardware. Anyone know where I can get part numbers for what I need beyond a new link?

Yes I will replace the sway bar bushings too since they are undoubtedly worn from the car being left in this condition. I will probably do the passenger link also.

These are made just like the factory pieces MEVOTECH Part # MS25800 and you will need 2 of them to do both sides.

You can get the kit at any autozone, advance, etc..BUT they are semi-universal and use a bolt that can hit the axles when you jack the car up.

Now would be a good time to upgrade to poly bushings. Search for Energy Suspension parts, you can get a kit that comes with the end links and sway bar bushings specifically fit the PT.

Yup, as xwing said, do both sides at the same time. You may need to hacksaw off the existing one, quite often the threads are so badly stretched that the locking nut will refuse to come all the way off the bolt, it's a 14mm as I remember but nothing a hacksaw, spanner(wrench), and a socket can't easily cope with. You will also find it a lot easier to fit the new ones if you can swing the anti roll(sway) bar down out of your way. Just make sure that you tighten the lock nut all the way to the end of the thread on the bolt which can be quite long on the universal aftermarket parts. I usually cut off the excess bolt to about 1/2" beyond the nut to stop it picking up crap from the road, but it's not really an issue if you want to leave it on. It's one of those pain in the whatsit jobs to do, but easy enough to remedy as long as you stick the vehicle up on axle stands. I wouldn't attempt this with the car only on a Jack etc as you will be pulling it about and may need to lay underneath it etc so you'll need the ground clearance as well
