Default Manual transaxle fluid fill

I've seen on my Owners Manual Scheduled Maintenance booklet that the manual transmission fluid should be checked periodically. I can't find where on the engine this needs to be performed.

It's on the driver's side, above and to rear of driver's axle:

This would be looking at it from inside, obviously, see differential bearing cup, above is an oval recess with check hole in center

Like Uptown said it's on the drivers side. There is a rubber plug in the side of the trans. Probably easiest to remove the wheel to get at it. The trans takes about 2.8 quarts of fluid. If it's an '01 it takes special fluid thats only available at the dealer, other wise it takes atf+4 just like the auto. FYI the special lube is expensive...

If they're saying the '01 take a diff fluid than later years ...

Transmissions are exactly same '94-10, except slight changes
