Default Trouble with new (to me) PT

I just picked up a 2005 PT Cruiser this weekend. After some early trouble that I think is worked out, I have a check engine light come on going to work. The car is running good. No missing or coughing.

A check of codes using the dash/key method shows me P0420 (Catalyst System Low Efficiency from this website) and P0513 (nothing showing up on this site). Autozone's code reader found the P0420 but not the P0513. Their "fixes" are
1.) Catalytic converter defective.
2.) Engine misfire or running condition
3.) large vacuum leak
4.) engine oil leakage into exhaust-valve guide seals, piston rings (I think meaning engine overhaul.

I didn't detect anything close to a miss (doing 60 on the interstate) or do I detect any burning oil.

What might this be? I have a 1 month/1000 mile warenty from the seller, but I would like to take this to them with a little knowledge of what might be going on.

This thread is going on at the same time. I think you will find your answers there.

Did you try CTRL-ALT-DELETE?

The Turbo is strong, fast and reliable.. People that don't understand the love of a PT, probably don't deserve to.

P0513 Invalid SKIM Key

SKIM = Sentry Key Immobilizer

In other words, the security system didn't like the key you were using.

I hope I dont have trouble first getting to work today and then back to the car lot this afternoon. I had tons of trouble with it yesterday. Almost didn't get home from church. I think the key is going to be a big issue!

Now it had numerous trouble codes.

When you start it, does it crank fast? A low battery produces all sorts of gremlins in a PT...

When all is good (like all day today) it starts fast. Starter is turning good. The battery has a 9/10 sticker on it - don't know if that means it was bought then or a build date. The car is giving about 6 different codes when I pull them up on the dash. None of which is the P0420 I had yesterday.

Is there any way to turn off the key system?

Maybe someone else can understand what you trying to turn off but I'm not sure what it is. Sounds like you don't want to be able to use your key anymore.

I was just wondering if there was a way to turn off the security system. I would just like to have the car operate at the turn of the key and not have to worry about the chip.

The Owners manual tells you how to override/disable the alarm system itself but you'll still need the "chipped? key to start the engine. Says nothing about doing away with that part of it.
