Default Sudden problem HELP!!

2004 PT Cruiser FI 154,000 miles

I went out last night and when I accelerated onto the freeway the car just stopped on the on ramp.
The car wouldn't crank over

I got it towed home and after checking on the net found fuse 13 had blown

I also swapped the horn relay with the ASD relay per the net

I replaced the fuse and the car started up and ran ok until I revved it up fast as if I was accelerating onto a freeway Then it surges like it is running out of gas it surges fast once every second and drops rpms when I let off the accelerator it settles back down to idle.

I have no error codes showed none after doing the key check

I can run it up to 3500rpm in park and it runs fine with no stumbling or surging

I haven't tried to drive it yet until I got the good advice from this site.

If it is the fuel pump wouldn't it stumble or surge at 3500 rpm?

Could it be the fuel pump relay?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

The engine has a limiter when in park or neutral. Revving it up to about 3500 and the computer shuts off the injectors so you don't harm the engine. Is that what your talking about?

That's what it is doing ,thanks!! Even when I floor it it doesn't cut out until above 3200 rpm
I'll have to test drive it and see what happens I still don't know what blew the fuse maybe a bad ASD relay. I did swap relays before replacing the fuse. I knew I would get an answer here!!!

Well I took it out for a little drive and all seems well, do I have to worry about it blowing the fuse again?

Simple at this: if you didn't find out WHY the fuse blew in the first place, there's always a chance it might blow again. Keep a couple spare fuses handy and keep your fingers crossed.

That's what I'm thinking, could it have been the ASD relay itself?

The ASD causing other things to go bad, sure but never heard of it blowing other fuses. Doesn't mean it can't happen.

Probably not the relay itself but rather what it controls...typically: generator field, ignition coil, injectors.

I drove around town today with no problems so hopefully it was a glitch I ordered a new ASD relay since the old one was 8 years old and so is the horn relay I put in the blown one's place. It does make me mad that a $17 relay can strand you and cost $75 to get home and if not for this board and the net It could have cost hundreds from a dealer. This is why I like 40 year old cars!
Thanks for the advice and I hope I don't need to ask again.

A couple burnt wires will do the same thing.
