Default Coolingmist Install

I am looking for a place that can install a Coolingmist stage 1 Methanol system. Any help would be appreciated.

Local speed shop would be your best bet if you can't do it yourself? Or find a Hi performance machine shop and ask them for recommedations.

Hmm... are you planning on running it on the track? Is it a turbo? There are cooling systems that are very easy to install that go on the front of your IC, that allow your intake to be way cooler than the outside air. Actually, there are so many varieties out there that you need to be more specific about what you're wanting to do.

If it's an NA, forget about it, you're wasting your time and money. If it's a turbo, and you're not racing on the track, again, wasting your time and money.

JUST MY OPINION!

Here's a video from one of our more insane friends, TotalSleeper. They have a very nice spray system setup on this stage 4 IC....



friggin great, watch the last turn and you'll see the turbo lite up like crazy!

Tom, good to see you over here.

For those that don't already know, Tom has been a member of THE CREW since 2005 and already has the full compliment of NEEDSWINGS products, DCR oil mod, DS INTUNE, etc. He extensively researchs anything before pulling the trigger and he seems to have the water/meth ready to install.

Did you get Joshes (cheftanks) unit that he had for sale or did you buy new?

Over the years at THE CREW, if I remember correctly, There were several shops that would be worth checking out.

Atlantic Motorsports in Gaithersburg

Maryland Performance in Frederick

Agileauto in Baltimore

Are you planning on misting the fmic or are you spraying into the intake or both?

I personally know of at least one NA that dyno'd a 12 horse gain out of the SNOW unit and that was using just the water/meth and not the additional nitro, so they do work! They REALLY make a turbo come to life but only when you feel you want/need it... The nice thing about a water/meth system is it only works when you "flip the switch" and/or go wot, depending of course on how you choose to install it.

There are several good write-ups over at THE CREW on the install if you choose to go the diy route and of course they all come with complete instructions.

As stated, check out PTCrew.

I personally went with Devil's Own but that was all because of the quality of their products. Got plenty of guys here that have SRT-4's and alot of them are meth-injected; with that being said those with a DO system have never had problems.

Yeah, also not sure about whoever mentioned not being worth it on an N/A setup.. anything that reduces IATs, increases air density and increases timing advance potential is going to be worth it. While someone may not see the 10-15hp gain they'd see on a forced-induction application, there are still benefits to be had by running meth on a naturally-aspirated vehicle at stock compression.

Ethanol/Methanol will deliver small gains (say 3-5%) to a stock N/A engine- But you'd need to pull fuel as the meth is adding additional fuel.

IF you decked block, took a lot off head, pulled HG shim, you'll obviously see a larger gain throughout powerband, without power robbing detonation.

I'd argue that most (PT) N/A owners would add up this and think it wasn't worth it. Most Neon owners, however ...

Don't run Methanol continuous- It's very corrosive and poisonous- Unlike ethanol, which I'm drinking this very moment ...

Also look up 'MW 50' on Wikipedia for an interesting 70+ year history of the stuff

For N/A applications, it's not absolutely necessary to pull fuel as the amount of methanol/water injected will be far less than in forced induction applications, and the computer is more than capable of adjusting fuel trims to compensate so long as the volume of meth injection is correctly proportionate.

I'm not sure where you're getting your information regarding 'power robbing detonation'? Detonation what the meth/water injection aids in suppressing. The gains come from either adding more boost (obviously not an option for an N/A configuration) or advancing timing. It has literally nothing to do with decking the block, milling the head or reducing the quench area at all..

And I think most people know not to run methanol continuously.. hence the widely accepted 'window switch' or 'WOT switch', which only flips on the pump under heavy acceleration or wide-open throttle conditions..

It's also widely known that methanol will readily attack magnesium and aluminum when introduced in high concentrations, but when mixed 50/50 (or less) with water, and injected at the rate that most 4-cylinders require, the effects are minimal and the gains more than speak for themselves.
