Default How Often To Change Plugs/Wires?

How often should the plugs and wires be changed in a 2006 base PT?

We've had issues now that the weather is colder with sluggish start in the morning. Today it did this, and the check engine light came on. Took it to the dealer who said it was showing old misfire codes and asked if the plugs and wires were original. Felt they were the problem and said they needed to be replaced.

They aren't the originals (changed at 27K and 79K), but are we changing them often enough? I just did the math and we drove 30K miles from May 2011 to now (don't ask me how, we never go anyplace, lol). We have 109K now. Will driving a lot make them need to be replaced quicker? They are less than 1 1/2 yrs old...

You say they aren't original, but are they stock? DO NOT BUY Chrysler ignition wires. THey are crap. on both my PTs I started getting mild misses around 20,000 miles.
Replaced with Crane wires and they really last.
Also, gap plugs at 0.040.
Good wires easily last 50,000 miles.

I changed mine to the Champion double Platinum at 60K. Had also changed the originals out at 20K before the Double Platinum plugs hit the market place. About to do it again with the Champions at 120K. As QSD said, good plugs will last at least 50K and usually a lot longer.

Ya stock spark plug wires are crap most PT owners only get 50K+ miles on them before they should be replaced!!

Spark Plugs should be gaped as per the current OEM recommendations. The exception is if you are planning to take the time to do proper plug readings and evaluate them for a different gap.

Some have found that their personal PT may do better with a different spark plug gap setting?

Now IMO not changing Spark Plugs at least every 10K seems thrifty?? Spark plugs do wear and testing how long you can use them only slowly decreases the performance of your engine. Spark Plugs are cheap and easy to change. Feed you engine a new set more often it will be much happier!

I change mine every spring, regardless of mileage. I usually put around 24k miles a year on it, just depends each year on how much driving I do for work....

I run the Champ copper and change them every 25K miles, it is a 30 min two beer job!~

Get some good wire, I like the MP Blue, also clean the Throttle body.
