Default A little help?

Help
My 2001 PT stalled on the interstate and would not start. It would turn over but not start. I did not hear any strange noises and the car had been working great all day. No check engine lights or abnormal gauge readings. I drive the car for work and had a couple of stops at work sites no problems all day.

Luckily I have AAA and they came a towed it to one of their Auto Repair centers. They could not get the car to start either. They ran diagnostics found electrical and charging fine. getting fuel pressure. They found fluid near the Cam Sensor and crank sensor and recommended changing both so I had them do it. (Highly doubt they used OEM parts so I may get to do it again soon.) They the car starts and runs fine. He did mention there was some fluid behind where the sensors were but could not find any oil leaks.

What should I be looking for to make sure this is not part of a bigger problem? Or when these sensors they shut down the motor. Thanks

It just passed 75k. The timing belt was one of my concerns. that will be next on the list. Got the PT out of the garage it is running like a top again. just in time since the hood strut kit arrived yesterday. No more stupid prop rod for me. The hood already has the telltale marks where previous owner or P.O's mechanic tried to close the hood with the prop up

Crash, welcome to the forum.

Yes, if your not sure, best to change the camshaft position sensor over to an OEM part. While your at it, for a few dollars more, there's a Target Magnet between the sensor and the end of the camshaft. Change that also.

From what i've read, a little bit of oil is OK behind the sensor. if it's badly leaking when you remove the sensor, then there's a problem. Apparently some of the PT engine have a camshaft seal which can be replaced, others don't.

I know that Chryslers base ignition timing off of the camshaft position sensor. Maybe there was something on it causing it to short out? I don't know.
