Question MAP Sensor Compatibility

hi all, new guy here.

my sister and brother in law have an 01 pt cruiser, non-turbo DOHC 2.4L. the timing belt stripped its teeth, was just replaced. the car starts/runs, but idles very roughly and stalls out some times if not given throttle (all while setting in the driveway, not on road).

the ONLY code im getting is a P0108 (MAP sensor high voltage). come to find out that he managed to crack the sensor right where the connector slides on. its not broken completely in two, but is obviously cracked.

sooo... im looking at new MAP sensors online, only to find that there are several part numbers to choose from, all for the same engine, and all look identical.

EBAY
the one it says i need for the 01 is the AS201 (@ ~$70).
it lists an AS220 for the 03-05 (@ ~$20)
also AS221 for 05 only (@ ~20)

Summit Racing lists slightly different years than ebay does, but still kind of confusing with overlapping models and years, all with the 2.4L engine (DOHC, SOHC, and Turbo DOHC)

SO, im taking it that there is clearly a dividing line between the 02 and 03 models... from there it gets a little muddy as to what is for what. but there is also on hell of a price difference between the 01/02 sensor, and the 03+ ones.

MY QUESTION IS: do i HAVE TO use the $70 MAP sensor (AS201) for the 01 model, or is it just a PN change or something, and they can be replaced with a newer, cheaper one (AS220/221)?

naturally, im eying the cheap ones, since they look identical, but im suspecting that there is SOME reason they are listed differently... probably internally with what readout the sensor gives the computer.

Thanks for the help!

(links to ebay items on next post... pending mod approval)

I don't know, but you could prolly walk into your local JY with a torx driver, and get an uncracked one for nothing:

To answer your question: yes, you need the expensive one. I tried to use one off of a 2003 N/A, and the car idled rough and would stall anytime I blipped the throttle. Buy the 2001 sensor, and if you can help it, stay away from Ebay. Stick to one of the online Mopar parts sites or go to Rockauto, that way you have some recourse if the part doesn't interchange or is faulty.
