Default Bubbling Sound yesterday

I have a 2005 Cruiser. 4 months ago, I had my radiator replaced then yesterday something wierd happened. After about 20 minutes of driving (mostly 55 mph) I heard a bubbling noise - I IMMEDIATLY parked and shut down. The cap of the Coolant Overflow reservoir had popped up. I let the car cool for several hours (it never over heated, had just barely started to creep past midline where it usually runs) refilled the radiator and reservoir. No problems getting home (about a 15 minute drive) stayed perfectly cool, no noises, nothing. So, freak occurance with the cap popping?, need to replace reservoir?, something more serious? Thoughts?

I think the cap was blown off by the bubbling coolant.
Open the hood, start the car, turn on the A/C - does the fan come on?
My hunch is your fan died.

Got the correct cap pressure rating? Reservoir only holds coolant for expansion and contractions. If hose is good then nothing on that side of the cap has any to do with it. Cap or fan like Quicksiverdon said.

The cooling system is supposed to be sealed and able to be pressurized. The pressure prevents the boiling (to a point). I believe the "bubbling" was happening because the cap was not all the way turned down. It has a 'half way" and an "all the way". Somebody goofed is my guess.... or somebody who didn't know what they were doing "inspected" and then put the cap back half way. I've seen that happen.

You were right to monitor the fresh refill. You were also right to not allow it to overheat. There is always an outside chance that there is a pressure leak somewhere else so continue to watch it. When it's cool with no pressure, go ahead and open the cap and top it off and also the recovery tank to the "cold" mark. An air pocket can play heck with your pressure sometimes so check to be sure you have a full system.

2step, he is not talking about the pressurized side of the system, but the overflow tank. It should be able to operate with no cap at all, except for he possibility of contamination.
