We recommend timing belt change at 100,000 miles so you have plenty of time. Enjoy your trip.

I was under the impression the interval was mileage (90k, 105k or 120k depending on year) or seven years. Timing belts can absolutely fail from age. If you're only putting 10,000 miles a year on your car, that timing belt could be 12 years old when you finally replace it. IMHO, it would be unsafe to rely on that belt that long.

I would definitely pull off the cover and inspect what you've got for cracks or frays. Better than finding out the hard way it failed of old age.

My '01 has a little over 130k and I started working on replacement today.

Started to get dark and too cold for me to finish.

It did need replacing. Still surprised me how good (bad in some spots) it looked considering how many miles are on it.

I'll take some pictures of its condition tomorrow so you all can see.
