Default Auto Shifter Kit and NOS vs. Turbo

I have 2 questions that I could not find answers to in a search:
Has anyone installed the B&M Automatic shifter kit and what do you think of the performance?

And What would be better, NOS or Turbo and why?

I wasn't aware that anyone made a shift kit for the PT.

As for NOS v/s Turbo, I'll take the reliability of a turbo.

Not listed on the B&M site, and nothing for the PT Tranny is listed on www.jcwhitney.com .
The only thing on the B&M site is a short-throw shifter for the manual.

I'll reply to the NOS vs. Turbo part of your question. I have the ZEX wet system installed on my 01 Cruiser. I have it set-up for 75 HP and I couldn't be happier. What a rush when that extra 75 HP kicks in. I also use an octane booster to make sure that I don't have any detonation. The beauty to me of the NOS vs. the Turbo is: #1. Cost. I have approximately $1000 invested in the NOS system vs. probably about $3000 for a good Turbo system. But I will be the first to admit that to fill my NOS tank is $40 a pop. #2. Enginde/Drivetrain wear. Under normal circumstances a turbo is working at all times putting more stress on your engine/drivetrain. With the NOS you only turn it on when you need it. But this is only my two cents worth and I'm certainly not an expert. Good luck with whatever system you choose. They both work well.

That's a universal shifter, not a shift-kit. A shift-kit is something that you install into the inside of the transmission to make shifts firmer and quicker. Some companies call it a shift-improment kit. You can install this, but you would lose the rest of the console, and it's not made specifically for a PT.

oh... ok. I didn't know that. Thanks for letting me know. I thought that was the shift kit. I guess if no one makes the kit, I will keep a look out for it. THanks for preventing me from doing that.

Jerry,
I definately agree with you on the cost and engine wear. What else did you put on your car that had to do with the NOS kit? Basically, since you put the NOS kit on, what else did you have to do?

MilPT,

When I installed the ZEX NOS system I did all of the mechanical work myself and then had my local speed shop do the electrical work since I'm a little shaky in the electrical area. So the NOS system was approximately $600 and the electrical work another $200. Since then I installed an electrical NOS bottle opener which set me back another $250. Besides the NOS I have a Magnaflow catback dual exhaust system, a JBA Header, a Jet Performance Module (which I turn off when I run the NOS), ZEX spark plugs, Nogoly wires and a cold air induction system fed by a Mr. Gasket Blower Hood Scoop. (I get a lot of comments about the hood scoop since a lot of folks think I have a blower installed). This is probably all I'm going to do to the engine for the present since anything more would probably require different rods, etc. Besides I'm first in line at my local Ford dealer to do an order sheet for a 2005 GT Mustang so the Cruiser is probably going to be sold. But I'll miss the Cruiser. It's been the most fun I've had with a car since my highschool days when I owned 55 and 57 Chev hotrods.
