Default Engine Squeak

Last winter (2011-2012) we did head work, timing belt etc on our 2003 GT 5 speed. After some trial and error we got it running properly and were very pleased. We had to store the car for the summer. We recently were able to get it back in operation and the engine has a "squeak". It seems to be coming from the right side of the engine. It varies with RPM, but turning the A/C on or off nor turning the steering wheel changes it. I tightened the alternator belt without improvement. I did have to replace the oil filter adapter seal as we had a leak there. I took to car to a coin car wash and cleaned up the engine top to bottom. On start up the squeak was gone, but came back after a minute or two. Any ideas?

I wonder if it is the serpentine belt tensioner or the belt itself.

I agree with Ray. Did you change the tensioner when you did the timing belt change? They do wear out.

Try this, use some penetrating oil and very carefully spray a little on the serpentine belt on the inside. One at a time to see which one is making the noise. The results will be temporary but you can tell which one is squealing.

It WAS the serpetine belt. I was concerned that with the oil leak and sitting stored in AZ for the summer that the belt might be compromised. I was told that spraying some carburator cleaner on the belt might work. I started it up and sprayed the belt for about 3 seconds. The squealing stopped and hasn't return in 300 miles. Thanks all.

Arizona heat does utterly amazing things to rubber and plastic parts of cars. And the electronics. And the connectors. And the paint. And the seats. And the tires.
