Default Timing belt

We have replaced the timing belt on a 2006 2.4 engine and the marks look right and the idle is good and runs smooth in idle. Above 3000 rpm the motor starts surge and popping. We thought the timing might be off but the marks look good. We have also replaced plugs, wires, tensioner and idler and new water pump. Has anyone had a similar problem that they were able to correct.

Is this under moderate throttle, light throttle, or heavy throttle? Or all throttle? Any codes/CEL? Have you double-checked the wires and plugs?

Is this driving it down the road or it sitting and you are revving it up. They have a rev limiter built into them that won't allow over a certain rpm when in neutral or park.
