Unhappy Intake bolt stripped

Hi all,
I bought a '04 n/a auto, a few months ago. It was running a little rough at idle. Soooooo i bought new plugs and wires, went out to undue the intake, and to my suprise..........not.... two of the bolts just spin. Question, How do i get the undone ?

Thanks

You can buy yourself some "Easy-out" bits. A tool box isn't complete without a set. Watch the video to see how it works.

try to get a pick or small flathead underneath the head of the bolt and pry up as you unscrew it. the bolts are threaded into little knurled brass retainers, my guess is those are just spinning in circles in the plastic. if that doesn't work and depending how loose they are in there, the intake might just pull off with a little persuasion.

let us know how it goes

It's probably not the bolts that are stripped... In the lower half of the intake there are brass inserts that the bolts thread into, they are most likely spinning in the plastic. Someone in the past probably over tightened the bolts causing the inserts to break free if the plastic.

Once you get the manifold apart you can just use longer bolts and nuts that go completely through the manifold.

Unhappy Re: Intake bolt stripped

Thanks rob342 I think the po did this as the head on one bolta is 10mm when the others are 8mm. Still, i see a lot of pry marks on this. i'll try to see what i can do.

Check underneath for nuts - if the PO already wrecked the manifold perhaps he used a long 10mm bolt and a nut on the other side. The reason it's spinning is because nothing is holding the nut still.

Personally, I would hop on ebay or hit up a junkyard and get new manifolds. They are common and inexpensive. This would be an annoying problem to have repeatedly (for me).
