Default misfire at idle. 2003 PT Cruiser

Hello,

I have a 2003 PT Cruiser with ~ 80K miles.
When Hot, my car misfire when at idle (rough idle).
When cold, car runs great.

I replace the spark plugs, and wires last month, but it did not make a difference.
I just had the cooler fan assemble replace, but it did not make any difference.

Any ideals on what I should try next?

Thank You

Bert

i would check for a vacuum leak. cold expands things. when warmed up, you have contraction, hence the leak.

Get some spray start (starting fluid). When car is misfiring, spray along seams of intake manifold - if idle smooths out, you have bad intake gasket.

Is the check engine light on and if so what are the codes?

Actually it's the other way around. But you're right that it could a leak that reacts differently to heat and cold.

Bert. How did you change the plugs? Did you remove the intake manifold and replace it or work around it? If you did remove it, it's very possible that some part of the gasket seal could have slipped or shifted out of position. The gaskets are generally reusable but can get damaged over time. A new set is probably going to be plumper and seal better.

When I replace the Spark plugs, I did not remove the intake manifold, I work around it.

The check engine lights comes for a day an them goes off. It been on three times in the last 3 months. When I check for the code two weeks ago, their were no codes reported. I will check again today.

The intake still be the issue. Even more so that you didn't remove and problem was all ready there. Check vacuum lines as well.
