Default Problems with the reverse light

Reverse light drama
I got a right hand drive euro 2ltr touring edn and am having a pain!! The reverse light stopped working for no reason ! Now i have checked bulb, fuse and switch on gear box all are working ok, i have power to the bulb socket when in reverse but the bulb just isn't coming on ! Any ideas as to why or is there a relay that i'm not testing in the loom ?? Or could it be the switch on the gear box

If you have power to the bulb socket when it reverse, and you checked the bulb, the ONLY thing that would stop it from not lighting up is a bad contact between the bulb and socket. Check inside the socket for rust or anything that would stop the bulb from making good contact.

I've got the same problem with mine - registers 12v between the bulb holder connectors but bulb won't light

If you manage to sort it, please let us know how

with the engine OFF and the key in the run position, and the car on level ground, put the shifter in reverse. walk around back and wiggle the bulb in the socket. i bet it'll turn on as you mess with it. my turn signal would not work in back, the problem was the socket. it just didnt make a good connection with the bulb, when i'd twist/tweak/bend/wiggle the bulb it would work. when i let it go it would quit working again. sounds like you're having a similar issue.

Tried swapping the complete holder from the fog light - no joy. Could it be the switch?

Get wire and put power directly to the bulb from the reverse light wires. If bulb lights, it HAS to be the socket. I'm thinking the bulb has a broken filament that sometimes connects, sometimes is open.

Thank you all for the thoughts on what it could be but have tried them all
It's a 2001 2Ltr petrol tourer
I have swapped the bulb and holder for the fog light still no joy ! I even skipped out the switch on gear box by shorting the plug and that didn't work ! I've checked the connection between bulb and mount, zip ! I checked all the fuses which are all ok, and connected the bulb straight to wires at the back so not the holder, All that is left that i can think of is 1 there is a relay in the circuit that is not working right or 2 the switch on the gear box need replacing ! So at the end of this month i am going with the switch so will let you know.
