Default Camshaft Sensor

Long story short, let the PT sit for 3 weeks and with less than a quarter tank of gas (Spent tooo much for xmas, didn't have much for gas!) Start it up and it very rough, sputters and dies. Gave it some gas to top up to quarter tank from my 5 gal jug, and same thing. Drove to get gas, dies on me, able to start it back up and fill up. Still driving like crap. Girlfriend takes it home, can't even get it started so she leaves it at her house. Go to bring it back home, dies again after a hard start. Get it going and rev it a couple times, sputters as usual. Get about a quarter mile and it dies. I crank and crank and crank and crank. It'll sometimes catch then die, then catch then die. Finally got it enough to rev it and drive home. Dies in front yard. Shows a 0340 which is camshaft sensor. Remove it and clean the little bit of oil, put it back it in, and woah. I can punch it and spin the tires. It hasn't had this much power since it fell into my hands with a "broken water pump". Take it to work the next day, just fine. Go to leave work, bad stumble and throws 0340 again. Remove it, wipe off oil, and is fine again. Looking at the sensor, is slightly bulged at the sensor part of the sensor (I make all sorts of sense, eh?) . I'm thinking of buying the new sensor since that seems to be the problem. Is there anything else anyone thinks the problem could be? I've check the harness that goes to it, and the insulation is still on over the wire pack. I was planning to order the sensor from here : Mopar Part 05093508AA CAMSHAFT SENSORPKG
as this is where I bought the oem water pump outlet tube from. What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Nick

Yep, can't go wrong with a MOPAR part. That sensor does give owners problems and it's an easy fix. Take a good look at the magnet inside the hole where the sensor goes. If it looks good keep it.
