Default error code p1701

PT Cruiser 2 ltr 2001 limited edition, manual shift.... Engine has coughed a bit on start up for a couple of days and today the engine warning light came on and the error codes are 1684 and p1701. I know 1684 is a nothing.
P1701 says Trans. MIL Request Circuit... but I have no idea what this means in English.....Any help anyone?..... Thanks

All I know about that is Trans = Transmission, and MIL = malfunction indicator light (your check engine light).

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along soon to fill in the gaps. I have the same car, same year, same issues right now, but no codes... good luck!

Looks like you need to take it to a shop with diagnostic tools for further information.

P1700 - Transmission Control Module (TCM) problem this means there is a proprietary code stuck in there, set by the transmission computer; it could mean a bad sensor. This can only be diagnosed by Chrysler-specific tools, which some shops outside dealers do have.

Must be a speed sensor. Didn't know a stick could give a code. Not worth a $200 bill to fix a $20 buck speed sensor.

Might want to reset the computer. Take the negative battery cable off for about 5 minutes. Step n the brake pedal to get rid of any residual charge. Put it all back together and see if that clears it up.

Unfortunately this might be something the dealer will have to diagnose. I can't find either of those codes in Chrysler's master code list for a 2001 2.0 liter.

I was going to look at Chrysler's definition for the code, but it's not in the list...
