Default All motor builds

I was just wondering if anyone here has done an all motor build to their PT. Just looking for what you did, where you got parts, how difficult was it, rough cost, and anything else you wanted to include. OH, and rough 1/4 times if you have them.

No need to do all that if you have the High Output Turbo Cruiser. A few small things and you can be running in the high 13s.

There is only maybe two(?) complete performance long block builds posted on any PT forum or other closely related forum that PT owners are member's.

There are numerous postings of PT owners doing various degrees of stock and semi stock engine rebuilds. You just need to look around this forum and other forums to find them

Otherwise your question is impossible to have the same frame of reference unless you live in the same area as some who have done a long block rebuild. Labor on machining the block and head as well parts vary from state to state and town to town. Where ever you live this would be a better question to ask at your local engine machine shop.

As a Drag Racer of many years I can assure you that 1/4 mile times and trap speeds depends on to many factors not all the least of changing a few parts and duplicating what others did. Results vary!

If you want to go quick in the 1/4 then buy a pair of PT NA steel wheels mount some slicks on them and buy a Sniper NOS system. $600 will get you in the high 12's mid 13's the easy way.

Well I was speaking to my friend, hes a neon specialist, and he told me for about 6k for all high end parts, i can get it down to 11-12s. hes doing the same for his dohc neon
I have a n/a pt, and i didn't want to go to the turbo side, too unreliable, id have to put premium gas in it, and its a pain in the arse to find a good turbo engine.
I live in ontario canada, so that is why its a little more difficult to find parts.

hes busy with his own builds, he has a sohc that hes turbo'd and a dohc that he is doing all motor. Im a mechanic by trade, but im going to have to send the block and head out to get the pistons installed and the engine nice and clean. i can install the cams myself, and the valves myself, just the pistons/rods i need the tools that i do not have. i might be able to ask my college to help me out:P

$6k on your engine?
What, exactly, do you plan to spend that on?

LOTS of guys do all motor 2.4- If you get some 18's or 21's I hear they work well-
However, once beyond that valve spring choices are limited.
Once you get into custom parts your life will become HELL-

2.4 has a very long stroke- so valve area is small relative engine size.
Doesn't seem to matter if it's turbocharged but N/A is a diff story

But don't even talk about the engine- How much weight are you willing to pull to do these 11-12's? totally gutted, undercoating stripped and cutting?
If no, then you can't get there from here.

I would go for the low end thermostat. Just as good as anything gold plated.

CREWZIN his prices are all over the place no sense to them and not well thought out??

Uptown the valve springs are only limited to you all!

6k for a pro built performance long block is not unreasonable but here again his last post about where he is spending the money does not really seem to count that?

Post #3 seems to be the best advise here?
