Default Rough Idle

My 04 Base with 80k has been having an inconsistent rough idle issue for a while now.
Most times it idles fine but occassionally it will start to sputter and the idle will drop, so far, it has been able to recover and not stall.
While driving it seems fine, it's only the idle.

I am guessing it might be either a idle air control sensor that could be going, or maybe the camshaft sensor?

Is there a way to check this without just buying a sensor and replacing it?

Which one should I try first? and how hard are they to install?

Btw, it has new plugs, wires, and filters.

Thanks for any help

Not sure if this helps, but I had that problem with 01. It was my EGR valve, but I got a code on the keys dance p0401. After replacing that mine stop. I think your model is made without EGR valve. Might want to check though.

Check for codes for a clue to where the miss is located. If no codes remove the Iac valve and clean. The other would have to be tested on a diagnostic machine while acting up.

The CEL is not on, sometimes it will flash on for a second while the idle drops, but then turn off moments later.

It has a new EGR, only a few months old.

Iac? Is that the Idle control motor? In the online part list they don't show an IAC sensor for the PT that I could see.
Just spray it off with some carb cleaner?

Yes, that should do. Unless someone has a better way. Look in the sticky in thetech ssection for retrieving codes and see what you get or have it read.
