Default Low Radiator Fan

Just got the car (2004 turbo) back from the dealer for some minor stuff. They told us that the low radiator fan was not working and they could replace it $936. I looked on Mopar Parts America and the fan has an msrp for just under $500 and they sell it for around $360.

Anybody replace their fan? Did you install a Mopar fan? Was it a challenging job?

Alex

check rockauto.com. a dorman fan for your turbo is $248 and change. you should be able to remove the old and install the new yourself.

i think the turbos have variable speed fans unlike the 2 speed non aspirated.

be patient, someone with more knowledge will be here to assist you further.

Thanks for the info. I'm not in a rush, just got the dealers info yesterday. Not a bit issue till the temps get up here in VA.

This will help somewhat with replacing the fan and housing. I did it on my 2001 non-turbo so there will be some differences but if your halfway mechanically inclined than you shuld figure it out as you go alaong.

If your is as easy as mine it's a 2wrench job,5 is the tough ones.
I also downloaded a repair manaul that good for $7.00us.I cant remember where is saw it but I think I was doing a search for PT Repair Manuals and came accross that one. It's better than the one at the Store.

Great link crewzin, thanks! I looked up the removal procedure and it read just like your write-up, only w/o pictures. I found one of the wires going to the lower connector to be frayed and apparently shorting on the trans cover. I hooked a SnapOn Modus scan tool up but it couldn't turn the fan on, high or low. So now I will check the fuse and relay. Yea, should have done that earlier. Hot weather is still a couple of months away so it's not a big rush.

Just a closing note, and a happy one at that. My fan now works, at both speeds.

I checked the Hi/Low fuses in the drivers compartment and they were good. Then I pulled the fuse in the pcm and it was shorted. I also pulled the Hi/Lo relays and they seemed ok.

The other day I was underneath and noticed that the green wire (low speed fan) at the connector was frayed and appeared to have shorted on the trans. I bandaged the wire, but of course the fan didn't run. The pcm fuse is a logical result of the frayed wire. So, spending $4.29 at Pep Boys was a lot better than $936 with the Dealer.
