Default Oil leak on timing belt

Just took my 2005 PT into get a tuneup and was told that oil is leaking on the timing belt and that oil was also getting into the spark plug. They suggest that the timing belt has to be replaced and that the cause of the leak would have to be located. Ive read alot on line about head gasket problems, could that be the cause of the leak? Quoted $1600-$2000 to repair the problems. Where is the timing belt a picture would be a great help. Thanks

it is a nightmare to get to. seeing as the sparkplug holes have oil in them, you should start by changing the valve cover gasket. you may be lucky and that is the only problem. it'll only cost $20-40 if you can do it yourself.

it could be the valvecover gasket, the head gasket, or if you're really unlucky it could be the crank seal due to a bearing failure

rob342.... Would the valve cover gasket cause oil to get on the timing belt?

I wonder how they determined there was oil on the timing belt? You can take out the upper screws that hold the cover on and then pull the cover slightly open but it is still hard to see the belt.

Who did the tuneup? I wonder if they were just trying to take your money.

I have an oil leak which i dripping on the floor and a quick inspection seems to point to be dripping down by the alternator & it's getting onto the belt making it scream louder than a teenage 1 direction girl fan.
I think its leaking from around the area of the orange square featured so what there ?
