Lightbulb Power steering pulley?

Hello everyone. I posted awhile back about noise from under hood, thinking I was a/c comp. New issue came to light; noise (high whine), just went away. Along with power steering. Found belt laying inside front fender. So, the p/s pump pulley has a piece broken off. Is there a tensioner or idler pulley between p/s pump & a/c comp? Could/would that have been noise, or the pump? Thanks for reading this long story, & thx for any input u may have.

Yes, in the picture below, the small wheel is the tensioner for the serpentine belt.

The wine was most likely the belt spinning on a pully that was not turning, or rubbing against the side of the tensioner. Autozone has them for like $35.

Have to rip the entire splash guard out of the wheel well to get to it, but once you've done that its pretty simple :-)

*trick to getting the splash guard out easy, remove the pencil strut ;-)*

Ok. Must vary model to model or yr to yr. The belt I found was def not serpentine. Was told it runs off crankshaft & powers ac & ps. ???

that's what the serpentine belt does. turns the ps and ac pulleys. that's all it does. if you're thinking it's all one belt according to crewzin's illustration, it's not. the belt on the left is seperate and is for the alternator.

Ok. That cleared it up. I did indeed think it was all 1 belt. So, I shall try my luck w/ replacing tensioner 1st. Seems that's where most people talk of noises & failure. Before belt flung, even with the noise - power steering still worked great. I appreciate everyones help and input. Hopefully I don't get called in to work, & I can have update on repair Sunday!
