Default Power steering fluid leaked out

Hello all, this morning I discovered that power steering fluid leaked out. There was still fluid left in the resovoir, and it was making the whinning noise, worse when turning the wheel. I topped it off with more fluid with stop leak and the noise is gone, but the car is parked and I have a piece of cardboard under the car to see if anything else leaks.

Is this the power steering pump failing/gone? Only thing I've noticed in the past is when I crank the car up in the morning I hear a short whinning sound that immediately goes away. It of course didnt go away this morning.

Need to find what is leaking. Or it could take your pump out. Keep the level checked.

i topped it off but it has totally and completely leaked out. nothing in the reservoir now. the drip is more towards the driver side of the car, but have to get underneath to see where. might lose a few days of work behind this.

Sounds like a hose.

If I fill back up will I be okay to make my destination? Does it flow faster as I drive?

If you're seeing fluid on the drivers side, it pretty much has to be the pressure line to the rack. The return line runs up the back side of the engine more to the passenger side.

You can run it low / without fluid. Hard to steer, but doesn't seem to hurt the pump. I ran mine empty for about 3 months, figuring the pump was bad anyway. After finding / fixing the bad hose connection, I filled the original pump and it's still working fine... Not really recommended, but it's not the end of the world either.

Hi guys, I forgot to give an update. It was a high pressure hose. I called AAA and had it towed to one of their shops, and they said it came loose or something. The car is fine now, the wallet is not

Glad it wasn't something bigger. Good to see you up and running. Thanks for the follow up.
