Default Busted bumper

After parking at a parking stopper with an extra four inches of rebar sticking out of the hole I managed to nearly rip my bumper off the front of my 2002 PT cruiser. The plastic mounting area of the fascia adjacent to the tire on the driver side is broken.

Anyone ever managed to repair a broken bumper tab on these cars?
Any opinions on buying aftermarket vs. OEM replacement bumper?

As always I appreciate the input,
Travis

I have read on many places these bumpers on Chrysler's are a very difficult plastic to repair. They don't do well with heat type repairs either. I have bought an aftermarket GT bumper and I think it fits very well. The price is considerably cheaper. Bought mine on eBay. Go for the free shipping. They have paint to order ones but I have no experience with this. Getting it unscathed would be my worry there. Maybe you should check who is responsible for leaving a obviously dangerous obstacle. If someone tripped and fell on it they would most likely die. There property damage insurance should pay for this.

Contact the store, take pictures of the re-bar and have them buy you/fix your bumper.

Yeah I wasn't sure about the aftermarket replacements fit quality. Glad to hear from someone who grabbed one. I did notice they were considerably cheaper. I have a few other dings and dents that I could get fixed/painted along with the bumper. It'll be nice to have a new looking PT (at least until I scratch it again).

Unfortunately it was a local county park. I'd likely have better luck creating a new one with my mind...

The plastic is very easy to repair with Acetone and reinforced wirth plastic bumper repair from LORD and Pro-Flex products. And if you just happen to have a plastic welder you can really do a top job very easily. But if not then the products mentioned will do fine.
I am doing some work on my rear bumper and choose to cut the pieces needed from a volunteer bumper off a Toyota and acetone them in place and then tack plastic weld them from the read fining them the usual way on the front. Even Danny aka busted_pt would approve of the work?

I've been in the bumper business all my working life. Sorry lynn your way off base here about bumper repair. Whome you need to go to this website Urethane supply and you will get some real good info about repairing urethane bumpers, they also have video's. You would be better off getting an after market bumper from ebay or check to see if you have a bumper repair shop where you live.

Don and his DWAG are friends of mine!

If he says I am giving advise not doable for most then he would know. My bumper is almost finished the way I mention. Might be hard to tell any repair was done?
