So i decided to have some fun in my 2001 pt cruiser LE. I ended up in the ditch and some guy offered to pull me out. well he hooked up to a bar found in my wheel well that bolts on in 2 spots one to what looks like i think is my frame and on to the wall in the well. It ended up snapping in 2 and im looking to replace it but i have no clue what it is or what it does. I think it was connected at the bottom onto the same bolt that holds my sway bar in place. I know that its past the tie rod end toward the front. It only took one bolt (at the top) and one nut that was around the same bolt i think was holding my sway bar. It still handles mint and doesnt pull to one side or the other. Anyone have an idea of what the bar is called? I know that when i cut my wheel to the right you can look in behind from the front and see where it was. any names for this part?

If it is a vertically mounted tubular support bracket that you are talking about, it is called a "pencil strut". Obviously a poor choice to use as a recovery point.
