I am new to these forums. I am trying to decide on one of two air intakes. Either the K&N or the AirRaid. I am looking for a little more performance in horsepower. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums luvmypt, I think they both make a cold air setup and thats what you would want to really see gain in performance, both K&N and AiRaid make fine products myself I like K&N from my racing days but I don't really think it matters

From what I've seen on this and other forums, they both have similar gains so shopping for the best price would be the way to go.

Thanks to both WUWU20 and CTFRANK for your reply on this subject. I think I am going to go the way of the K&N only because I think it looks better.

My opinion, I would get a Pipercross induction system. part # PK176c http://www.pipercross.com/ if you live in a dusty area. Or buy a foam air filter or Accel Kool Blue to replace the K&N one. K&N type filters do allow more air to pass but filtration is best when the filter becomes "dirty" and kept properly oiled. The Pipercross will flow almost as well as the K&N but filter the smaller particles better and is also a reusable filter or can be cleaned. I should add that the K&N is a good filter and is popular among many enthusiasts. Oil analysis varies depending on the geographic area/location with the K&N Filter. Some report excellent results with minimal dirt and wear, while others find increased dirt and wear. The following link is from a desert racer and may be considered an extreme example: http://www.dirtcheapracing.com/tech/airfilter/. And here is an image of a K&N filter under microscope with various micron sizes as reference:
![]() Accel Kool Blue Air Filters, part # ACC-KP2539, is an excellent alternative to the K&N drop-in filter and cheaper too, if you feel that a paper filter is too restrictive and want more filtration than the K&N, yet want a reusable filter and better breathing. Personally, I prefer the paper air filters, cheaper and has more filtering area. Would like to see a foam drop-in filter though. 2002 Almond Pearl Limited Edition 27K It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice. ![]() |

StarCrwzr: I didn't fool with that snorkel, but simply attached a 2" duct to the snorkel, then ran the duct behind the left front wheel well area and down to the left brake intake. I cut a hole in the side of the intake (I didn't want to reduce air to the brakes!) and inserted the end of the 2" duct there, after covering the end with some screening to keep out miscellaneous junk. Brings colder air directly to the filter - works great!
