Default Water leak Under turbo

Hi, I replaced the rubber line beside the air box and cam sensor when I got the car it had a small pin hole. I have been smelling antifreeze for a few days after it warms up. I had the hood open and revved the engine up and looked under the car the water was flowing down at a steady pace under where the turbo is. I looked up top and couldnt find anything. I also just replaced the coolant bottle a few months ago and a new heat shield.

Coolant feed or coolant return lines from the turbo or the lines to the oil cooler.

There is no coolant involved with the turbo that I know of.

I agree. The hoses that go to the turbo carry oil, which passes through an oil cooler.

huh
One of the advantages of these turbos is they're water cooled. That's why it's recommened to let the car idle a few before shutting it down so the coolant can do it's thing

Guys/gals

Chrysler is the world leader in Turbo Charging, they have sold more Turbo Charged cars than all other makes combined.

They worked with Garret back in the day and to make the turbos last( they had the 5/50 and later 7/70) they water cooled the center section to prevent the coking which plauged, GM and Ford and many of the imports who were too cheap to incorporate such a simple fix.

The 2.4 uses a coolant feed, coolant return, oil feed and oil return lines.
They are the achilles heel, at some point your going to have to change them, because the rubber sections dont last forever, just like upper and lower radiator hoses and heater hoses they will last 10 yrs maybe but at some point they are a time bomb waiting to blow, and it is a total PITA to change them, very tight in the back.

Note also the oil cooler on the turbos has two sections of formed rubber hoses which should be changed.

Lastly these cars at the point in the life cycle where people who have them should start doing some good thought out PM to prevent incidents where say the coolant feed line bursts, and the overheat and cook the engine!

As they say, pay me now or pay me later.

Yes, you're right. Thought the two lines were both oil lines. The one closest to the firewall is at least one of the coolant lines. will get out my spare and look for the return lines. Thanks guys, another good reason for these discussions. I never learn much if everyone always agree. Because the whole story usually doesn't come out if someone isn't trying to show them the true facts. So thanks for not making it a personal battle and providing the information to resolve this .

A long, long, long time ago, an op asked how he could be getting water in his oil. He said he and his mechanics had checked every possable entry point and could find nothing wrong.
I replied that i knew of one instance that the turbo oil cooler fixture had failed internally (it is a CAST part and these things can happen with a casting) and allowed coolant to mix with the engine oil. He checked it and sure enough, that was the problem. They replaced the oil cooler and he was a happy camper.

Keep in mind, this is an extremely rare circumstance and those two cases are the only two that I am aware of. NITRO wink/wink (thats an inside joke) we'll see.

In short yes, as was said so well above, it is coolant that flows through the turbo oil cooler fixture.
