Default timing belt loud after replacement? video inside

well i just replaced the timing belt on my gf's '08 cruiser. Started up just fine, not throwing any codes or anything, but DAMN is this new belt loud. is this normal?
i got the Blue Gates racing belt kit from rockauto and the cam seals, as well as an oem waterpump. seems to drive normal from the short drive i took it on, but the belt is REALLY loud, lol.

Sounds like the timing may be off.

Or a harmonic balancer is toast.

But im not a timing expert. Someone on here will probably know a lot more than i do :-)

thanks for the reply. Sunday I'm gonna start tearing in to it again to try and figure it out. I hope its something stupid I forgot to do and NOT the timing or the harmonic balancer

I would verify that the serpentine belt is centered in all pulleys. Then check for the proper tension of the belts. Then spray a very light oil [like wd-40, crc 2-26 etc.] on each belt or into the pulley. One belt at a time. Spray both sides of belt if the belt has an outer idler. If no change in noise, remove upper timing cover and check tension. Listen for change with/without cover. Careful. Belts eat fingers!

It sounds like the belt is rubbing the cover. (I'm not saying it is.)

The source of noise was the idler!! The brand new one from gates. Need to send them an email and request some kind of compensation now...

I always turn mine by hand to feel if they are smooth and tight. But that is very unusual to say the least.

Both the New one and the Old one felt EXACTLY the same, I don't think there was any way to tell the idler was bad. It spun freely in my hand and was really smooth

And we spun it over by hand a good dozen times and it seemed fine

I and many others have installed this kit without issue. All the pics of mine on my project page. These things happen. To my knowledge, this is the first I heard of this. So the odds are in your favor.
