Default 01 PT Cam Problem

Just did a water pump on my 01 and apparently the mo canic forgot to torque the cam bolts. Needless to say it quit running. Im sure it sheered the shier pins but I dont know if it bent valves,, didnt make any weird noises. Can those pins be replaced and should I even bother, not sure if it bent valves. Very frustrated these friggin things are so dam hard to work on without taking the motor out.

What pins are you talking about? If you are referring to the key stock pins at the ends of each camshaft they can be replaced. But the general labor cost to do it would be more then you finding a pair of camshafts at an auto wrecker.

Its not about the in-expense of pin itself!
I believe that if you were to actual change one that is broken at the head of the camshaft you would understand my posting to simply get another set of OEM camshafts. If they were billets or having a custom grind machined I would have recommended having a engine machine do the task.

You might try removing one broken at the base and understand what I am talking about. It would take me about 1/2+ to do two cmashfts! Thats about $50-75+ in most compentant shops.

why not have the mechanic fix his mistake? i know i would. you pay for a service and if done incorrectly, you take it back.

I agree,, yes it did snap off the shear pin. What are the chances it bent valves? Do they stick down far enough in the cylinder to do that?
