You haven't been reading the forums. The same amount of labor (5 to 7 hours) is needed for the water pump as to do the timing belt. We always tell everyone to do them both at the same time.

You didn't say what mileage you have. ANYWHERE near 100,000 miles, do the timing belt, belt tensioner and water pump at the same time.

That's actually pretty cheap to get in there to do the job. Most dealers want $1000-$1200 for the things I've mentioned.

The PT is a 01. Had the timing belt replaced at 102,000. And the water pump has been replaced before. It has 166,000 on it now. Bought the PT for 1000 and put about 600.00 in it so far. Now this.....

Always a good idea to go for an expensive/well made part when it takes that much to get to it. Is the pump leaking to show that the internal workings are bad?

Yes the pump is leaking so it is internal. I'm taking it in on Thursday. I agree with you.. It will be cheaper than a new car....... But I like the PT and my son just put a Stereo in. We have plans on putting amp and sub woofer down the road..... I do appreciate the help.

OK. Personally, you have about 60K on the timing belt. Supposed to be changed around 100K (as you know) so, if you plan on keeping the car, it's just as easy to change the timing belt again, in fact the belt has to come off to get to the pump so I would have that and the belt tensioner changed while doing the pump.

AND, while they're in there, throw in a new thermostat.
