Default Light Knocking on Cold Starts Only

I've been hearing a light knocking sound, but only on cold starts. After a minute or two, it's gone and I don't hear it again. This is from the passenger compartment. I've tried to listen to the engine with the hood open, but don't hear it. I thought I heard it once when I had the passenger wheel off and was it there doing my motor mounts. Any ideas?

My car is a 2007 Base Model N/A 2.4L with about 87,000 miles.

When was the last time you changed oil? What weight are you using? might want to try a lighter weight if your at 10w30/40.

It's been there for a few changes. I change my oil every 3,000 miles (about every 2-1/2 months). Last change was 1,000 miles ago (about 3 weeks) and I used Valvoline High Mileage 5W-30. I was told this was a semi-synthetic (70/30 mix).

The last two changes before that, I used Castrol GTX Syn-Blend 5W-30. I've been using semi-synthetic for the last couple years. I tried a full synthetic (Penzoil Platinum), but it was making ticking on startup, so I switched back to the semi.

Try adding some Marvel's Mistery Oil in the crankcase.

After reading on their site, it says to replace 1 quart out of the 5 quarts with the Marvels. I'd have to wait until I'm ready for an oil change, since it would overfill it now.

I'm guessing that you've used it in your crankcase before.

I sure have! I had an '87 Mazda B2200 years back, it run great but had a nasty ticking sound.. it sounded like a sewing machine at start-up lol . I used to put a couple of ounces every oil change and that would take the noise away. It really worked, and no issues ever.

I remember putting some in the gas tank too, not much tho..a cap or so.

So, about 2 - 4 oz. in the oil works? Maybe I'll have to try it.

Picked up a 32oz bottle of MMO (they were out of the 16oz.) and added a capfull to the oil and a capfull to the fuel. We'll see if this helps.
