Default 2005 PT 5 Speed Won't go in reverse

It will gift through all gears but when trying to put it in reverse it won't even act like the gear is there. The car does roll backwards but won't go in to the reverse gear. It will go in to other gears but sometimes will get stuck in a gear and I have to pump the clutch to get it out of gear.

Thanks for the help!

Worn clutch ? I think the reverse will always be the first gear that jamms.

does it go in if the car is not running? like if you put it in reverse, press the clutch, and then start it?

Cable bushings are a known problem also.

As per his description I would have to agree with busted_pt. ^^
The reverse is on its own shaft and has its own synchro. So the OP does not describe any grinding and the forward gear are working so I would look at the cables.

Follow this link to see your problem, click booger bushings.
Booger Racing
Neons (same as PT here) have had this problem since 1993.

I do have a set of non-turbo cables on e-bay, but highly doubt you need anything more than booger bushings.

Teska and Rob are correct, a dragging clutch will make R difficult to impossible to engage, as Nitro says, R is on it's own shaft and unlike the other gears isn't constant mesh!
