Default Power steering issues

Car was making typical power steering noises and leaking PS fluid like a fool turned out to be the sensor switch. Had that replaced and leak and noise stopped. No issues. Now three days later am on my way home from a short trip. Cruising down the hyway I hear a semi loud noise. Not quite a clank, almost like I hit debris ( though I saw nothing) car still drove and sounded fine. That is until I came to an intersection and tried to turn. I had no power steering! No noise, fluid is fine. Hubby is out of town right now and none of the shops are open on the weekend. Talking to him on the phone he thinks it could be the belt? Makes sense to me but wanted to get opinion of those more familiar with PTs

Easey enough to confirm. Just look under the hood on the passenger side front corner. Should see a pulley with no belt.

Hummm... I think I saw a belt there. Darn, wonder what else it could be?

And since I just read that the same belt drives the water pump ( and car did not over heat) it has to be something else

No the water pump is driven by the timing belt. Look only hands clear, while motor is running. Belt may only be laying there.

Well that makes me feel better! Will check tomorrow and hope its just the belt. Though I think I may have the mechanic replace the pump anyway. Car has 134K miles

Pumps don't fail like that. Could also be a hose ripped lose by running over something. I would just make that call only if it is involved.

Well it turns out to be a pully alignment issues that was wearing out the pulleys. Hopefully all is now well in Cruiser world!
