Default The Wonderful P0340

Hey Guys, about a week ago on my way to my parents place the engine light came on, made it to their house checked code, got P0340, removed sensor cleaned put back in car, no code present.
Yesterday on my way home from work light back on, drove to gas station got a drink got back in my PT light off....on my way to work today light came back on, checked code P0340.
car: 2005 PT Cruiser Base
milage: 128,000kms

is this just the sensor? possibly wire rotage/breakage?
car still drives, not the greatest but you know.

I'd go with a new cam sensor first. Also, check wiring and connector plug while there. Had an 03 chrysler [with a 340 code] that would start half the time normally, then would have to be cranked and stopped several times until the cam sensor syncronized with the engine. Then it ran great again.

i am not too sure if the belt has been changed before, is there anyway to tell if it has?

This morning went to grab a coffee at the local Tim Hortons, when i got there the light was on, turned off car, grabbed coffee jumped back in and the light was off.

going to check the wires when i have some time, spoke with tech at dodge dealership he said to check the wires so thats what i am going to do, make sure there isn't any corrosion, his guess is that it is the sensor but you have to knock out the other possibilities.

My sensor was off and on also. Just buy a new sensor. You can check the wires as you install it.

A code is placed in RAM or pending until corrected and cleared properly. I would suggest you get the code cleared and then see if it returns.
You may also have other codes that you were not aware of, so vewiing them may help to solve your issue. The "key dance" often does not display code(s) in a pending file.
