Default P0344 AGAIN?

05 pt cruiser 2.4 no turbo
what would be my next step?
replaced head gasket, timing belt, oil pan gasket, oil pump seal.
car didnt start right away and came up with ckp and cmp codes.
after cranking for a while and checking everything finally started
in limp mode so no rev above 2300 rpm or so.
changed cmp sensor and same problem
code pops on immediately from cranking
rechecked timing marks
tested cmp sig to pcm and works
tested ckp sig to pcm and works

ckp and cmp sync was at 8 deg before i replaced cmp
now at 0.0 but seems as though the computer is not seeing the cmp runs same with plugged in or unplugged

no signal on scanner from cmp even though its firing at pcm connection

any ideas?

Duffy, are you using Chrysler sensors or aftermarket? Our PT's don't like aftermarket (auto store) sensors. They may look the same as genuine MOPAR brand but they don't last as long and some don't work at all.

Dealer was closed. Used Napa part. But then installed the original one it had on it before I started. The car ran fine before. I replaced gaskets due to leaks. I've also taken the timing belt back off and reinstalled again even though the marks were lined up. Still same thing. The sensors cmp and ckp have ground, 5 volt reference, and signal at the pcm.

May not be the sensor, but the magnet inside. They don't get changed with any new sensor.

Magnet looks good. New sensors did nothing. Timing belt round three happening. The marks line up straight across all four marks right?

Timing marks were off then according to your picture. Reset the belt to the picture. Still same problem. Just to eliminate.. Put on new magnet.
Now runs great.
Problem fixed.
No visible cracks, marks, or other problems. Still magnetic so i dont know what happened but it is fixed.
Thanks for the input.

Crewzin: Excellent pics of the sensor and magnet. Easy to understand. Also, remove and clean the magnet; as any metal in the magnet will 'confuse' the cam sensor.
