Default head or block

Hello I'm new to the pt world just picked one up today for free 2002 160,000 miles. Just one thing wrong with it they said the block was cracked, but what you want for free, the body and interior looks great. Ive messed around with the older 5.0 stangs but this is a different world. Would it be best to pull the head off have it checked to see if it's the head if not pull the short block then,or just easier to pull the motor out. They said it just stopped they had it towed to a shop who told them it was the block. Or what test could I do to tell which it might be. Thanks guys I know how much the forums help as the have for me in the past.

If it just stopped. It's most likely a timing belt. Pull the cam sensor and crank to see if cams turn. If they ran it hot till it died then the head would be bad. Blocks don't crack unless you throw a rod or freeze and busted. Let us know what you find.

Exclamation Re: head or block

Free is good, also justifies you putting some money into it to get it running.

I had a brand new 92 5.0 hb 5 speed, traded it for a 99 firebird formula ls1 6 speed, did some engine/suspension mods to it.

I have modded my current pt out more than the previous two combined.

They are a great little car

Good luck

Ok this is what I have found out so far. The belt is good and the cam is spinning. With the cam sensor off and it spinning looks like it's spitting out some water. I don't see it in the oil guess because it hasn't run with it in there so it's not milky. If it's the head would it be easier to just replace the motor with a complete motor are try and pull the head and have it replaced. Sorry if this is dumb questions I know nothing of working on the overhead cam motors, only older v8's

Will it run? Have you tried to run it?

If so does it create its own white weather system out the rear when it runs?

Does it sound like your hitting the motor with a 10lb sledge when it runs?

It will not run, it just spins over. The water doesn't pour out, but spits from behind the cam sensor when you try to crank it.(when you remove the cam sensor)

Head doesn't have water anywhere near Cam sensor

There's a frost plug farther down-

Must be coolant line to heater core leaking
