Default White smoke on start up

Hello All,
I have a 2004 PT WITH TURBO T.EDT. It has 149,00 miles on it.
Lately the check engine light comes on, and the oil light flickers off/on.
now as of yesterday the car blew white smoke on start up, and everytime
thereafter on start up. I did hear a strain when pulling uphill checked the oil
and all was full.
Could I have a blown gasket ? Will probably take it to the mechanic since I don't want to breakdown on the side of the road,
but your advice is most welcome.

Thanks

White smoke either means water in the fuel. Or antifreeze in the combustion chamber.

Is the smoke sweet smelling?

I would say to get a compression check and throw some Iso-heet in the gas tank :-)

Before you get all wound up spend a few bucks first. Replace the oil sending unit for the oil light and replace the Pcv for the smoke on start up. And then see what you got.
Do this first because most mechanics will think the worst.

I like Busted's answer. Also, with that mileage, I would do an oil pressure test with a mechanical gage @ cold idle and @ hot idle.

Sniff it first. There are days I'm not too proud of myself.

Thank You Guys,
I am taking all advice and do just that. I will start with Busted advice, then
follow pulminators. if that doesnt get it. I'm not sure if the smoke is sweet smelling or not. I'll have to have someone else sniff it.

You must not be very dedicated to fixing your car. You don't need someone else to sniff it. That's what they have vacuum hoses for man. Also duct tape. I shouldn't have to explain further on what to do next. Get back to us with the results.

Totally just playing!!!!

Ok Guys,
Got the oil resending unit replaced.Oil light now off. Replaced PCV hose it had
dry rotted, went to three different locations for the valve.
Advanced auto, Autozone and Nappa. It was not the correct one. Finally
ordered from the dealer it will be here tomorrow. Problem is it's worse.
Oil is coming from the tailpipe, it smokes after driving a few miles. Oil resending unit tightened but I'm losing oil now.

Anybody else experience this?

Oil purging from the exhaust says something in the vacuum system is not kosher. to me.

I agree.
If you put that new hose on the old pcv it could make it worse. So maybe disconnect till you get the Pcv.

Margo...
You might have a bad turbo... Oil might be bypassing into the exhaust.
